Welcome to the Camino Fiber Network Cooperative

The Camino Fiber Network Cooperative is a California Consumer Cooperative Corporation incorporated in 2009 to construct and operate community-owned, open access fiber to the premises telecommunications infrastructure in Camino and Central El Dorado County.

The cooperative was founded on a nearly century old American tradition of communities building and operating utilities to deliver electricity, water and telecommunications services in areas not sufficiently profitable for investor-owned companies to serve.

Many parts of central El Dorado County are unserved and underserved relative to their telecommunications needs at a time when the Internet is rapidly replacing legacy telephone and cable TV networks and is capable of delivering voice, video and data service as well as emerging applications such as telemedicine and online learning and higher education.

The cooperative’s planned fiber network will make possible numerous potential benefits that will make El Dorado County a more desirable place to live, own property, operate a business and educate its children.

As of mid-2011, the cooperative has identified potential sources of public and private grant funding to enable it to begin initial network design and business planning work and has partnered with the El Dorado County Office of Education as fiscal agent to secure these funds.
