Solutions for El Dorado County’s telecom needs

The problem: Incomplete telecom infrastructure that doesn’t reach many El Dorado County premises, leaving them offline for Internet access.

The solution:  The Camino Fiber Network Cooperative intends to construct a complete fiber optic to the premises network that reaches all homes and businesses in its service area.

The problem: DSL service is slow and will soon be obsolete, unable to handle bandwidth hungry video content.

The solution: The coop’s fiber optic network will utilize proven fiber optic technology that has enormous capacity to accommodate future growth in consumer and business bandwidth needs.

The problem:  Poor voice connections, crosstalk, and noisy lines.

The solution: The coop will provide clear, reliable Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) service with many calling features included.

The problem: I get satellite Internet service, but frequently my connection is degraded to a very slow speed because I exceed bandwidth usage limits.  In addition, my connection is sluggish and websites don’t load quickly.

The solution: The coop’s planned fiber optic infrastructure will provide substantial bandwidth with plenty of room for future expansion, eliminating the need to ration bandwidth as with satellite Internet providers.  In addition, land based fiber circuits do not experience high levels of latency due to the long distances signals must travel to reach satellites in high orbits and return to the earth.

The problem: Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) are unable to get a signal to my premises due to terrain and foliage.

The solution: The fiber optic cable to the premises service the coop plans to deploy is not affected by terrain and foliage and isn’t vulnerable to signal dropouts.

The problem: Cable prices keep going up every two years.

The solution: Since consumers are the local owners of the coop, they — not an out of state corporation — set rates.
